Sequence of events
On a rural road, the driver of a Mitsubishi Pajero overtook another car. Although the overtaking maneuver was in fact completed in time, the driver of an oncoming Renault Twingo thought she had seen a hazard and so braked hard. She also moved across to the left lane, where her Renault collided head-on with the Mitsubishi, which was pulling back into the correct lane. The Mitsubishi subsequently caught fire.

Had she had more driving experience, the young Renault driver would probably have reacted in a more appropriate manner. Multi-stage driver training with a supervised driving element might have helped to prevent this accident.
